The role of primary packaging in the production of veterinary pharmaceuticals

According to the definition of pharmaceuticals in GMP-WHO, pharmaceutical products are not only products intended for human consumption but also include veterinary medicine. In Vietnam, in Decree 35/2016: Detailing a number of articles of the Law on Veterinary Medicine, it is clearly stated that the production of pharmaceutical products or vaccines for veterinary use must comply with the following standards: pharmaceutical manufacturing GMP-ASEAN or GMP-WHO or GMP standards equivalent but not lower than GMP-ASEAN. Therefore, in essence, the role of grade 1 packaging in the production of veterinary pharmaceuticals is not too different from that of pharmaceuticals for humans.

Grade 1 packaging is an integral component of the final veterinary pharmaceutical product. Grade 1 packaging is in direct contact with veterinary pharmaceuticals, so their quality directly affects the quality of veterinary pharmaceuticals.

Quality assurance of packaging grade 1 is a mandatory requirement for veterinary pharmaceutical manufacturing enterprises.

During the production process, all grade 1 packages must be preserved, ensuring the same storage conditions for raw materials (active ingredients, excipients), tested and sampled before going into finished production. Products.

In the process of studying the stability of the product, it is necessary to store veterinary pharmaceuticals in the correct grade 1 packaging because they will directly affect the research results.

02

Quality requirements for grade 1 packaging in the production of veterinary pharmaceuticals

Due to direct contact with veterinary pharmaceuticals, grade 1 packaging should be carefully quality controlled so as not to become a source of contamination for veterinary pharmaceuticals.

Besides sensory, qualitative, and physical criteria (length, thickness, other dimensions…) the microbiological limit is the most important criterion to check and control for bags. Grade 1 packaging. The main reason is because of the direct physical contact between the grade 1 packaging and the veterinary medicine inside it.

In addition, for liquid pharmaceuticals, the issue of contamination from the packaging is also concerned. Example: Glass packaging needs to be tested for the strength of the inner surface of the glass (according to the Vietnamese Pharmacopoeia V).
